About The Florida Scholastic Hockey League
The Florida Scholastic Hockey League was founded in 1998 by Peter Pearlman, MD, and Co-founders Joseph Yates, MD, and Patrick Graham, MD. The league was incorporated as a not-for-profit 501C (3) corporation in October 1998. The FSHL began operations with four teams and has since had more than 40 teams in two conferences (Panthers and Lightning) around the state of Florida. In South Florida, the Panthers Conference (the original FSHL) now consists of school teams from Miami-Dade to Jupiter. Teams from Tampa and the surrounding areas make up the Lightning Conference.
In 2017-2018 the league name was changed to “Florida Panthers Scholastic Hockey League” (FPSHL), to recognize the ongoing contributions of the Florida Panthers Hockey Club. Their support of the league has grown since inception and contributes greatly to the success of the league. In addition to the 20-game regular season; the league has playoffs for the top teams in each division and the opportunity to be invited to State Championship tournament sponsored by SAHOF.
The league also provides clinics throughout the year to help players that need additional instruction to become a participating contributor to their teams. The FPSHL also recognizes extraordinary performance in the classroom with the Leadership Academy and Scholarships for seniors and on the ice with All Star games and a Showcase team that provides exposure of players to college and junior scouts.
The league is governed by three principals:
Whatever the level of the player; there is an opportunity for every high school student to play ice hockey in an organized and safe place for them to participate.
The Florida Scholastic Hockey League is a not-for-profit organization affiliated with USA Hockey (the governing body for youth and amateur hockey in the United States). The league is run and managed by volunteers from all walks of life. The Executive Board, Advisory Board, and Committee Members are all volunteers whose dedication and hard work make the FSHL a great success now and guarantee its success in the future.
With the enormous number of events the League sponsors, the continuing success of the FSHL is predicated on the time and effort donated by our volunteers.
The Leadership Academy is open to FPSHL high-school students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades who are interested in learning about leadership and aspire to become leaders in their community, high school, college, and career.
Leadership Academy Mission
Provide FPSHL student-athletes and student team managers the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills by sharing the characteristics of effective leaders and exploring the impact of leadership within the community, college, and business.
